WCAG 2.1 AA - Partial Conformance

Conformance Status

Our current level of accessibility compliance

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities.

surelock.homes partially conforms to WCAG 2.1 level AA. Partial conformance means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.

We also aim to comply with:

  • Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act
  • ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) requirements
  • EN 301 549 European accessibility standard

We have implemented the following accessibility features:

  • Keyboard navigation - All interactive elements can be accessed via keyboard
  • Skip links - Skip to main content links on all pages
  • Semantic HTML - Proper heading hierarchy and landmark regions
  • ARIA labels - Screen reader support for interactive components
  • Focus indicators - Visible focus states on all interactive elements
  • Color contrast - Text meets WCAG AA contrast requirements (4.5:1)
  • Responsive design - Works on mobile, tablet, and desktop devices
  • Touch targets - Minimum 44x44px touch targets on mobile
  • Dark mode - Respects system color scheme preferences
  • Reduced motion - Respects prefers-reduced-motion setting
  • Zoom support - Content remains usable when zoomed up to 200%
  • Alt text - Descriptive alternative text for images

Despite our best efforts, some areas have known accessibility limitations:

  • Interactive map - The Leaflet.js map component has limited keyboard accessibility. While we provide tooltips and popups, navigating between map markers via keyboard is not fully supported. We recommend using the filter panel to narrow results.
  • Third-party content - Some embedded content from third parties (map tiles, advertisements) may not meet all accessibility requirements.

We are actively working on:

  • Adding an accessible list view alternative for map data
  • Improving keyboard navigation within the map
  • Enhancing screen reader announcements for dynamic content

We assess the accessibility of this website using the following methods:

  • Self-evaluation - Regular internal testing against WCAG 2.1 criteria
  • Automated testing - Using tools like axe DevTools and WAVE
  • Manual testing - Keyboard navigation and screen reader testing
  • User feedback - Incorporating feedback from users with disabilities

Our assessment follows guidance from:
